Open Access Week around the world is taking place now through October 27th. This Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 PM stop by the Law Library to learn more with us about OA and let us help demystify what it is, how you can (and may already be) contributing works to it, and why it is the wave of the future! We will have free cookies!
OA is not a new concept, and in recent years there have been bigger and stronger pushes towards making scholarship, data, and other information more accessible to the public. Even the United Nations (UN Day is also this week!) has made goal 16 of their 17 goals by 2030 one which includes “equal access”, particularly to legal information and justice. This year’s Open Access Week theme “Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge” gives people everywhere the opportunity to stop for a moment and have conversations about access to information across the globe. At UGA Law Library we are proud to have such a robust collection in our IR, including many Historic Georgia Codes and Digests, and interesting archives like our Nuremberg series. We actively support our school’s professor and student works as well by maintaining collections for:
- Faculty Scholarship
- Georgia Journal of International & Comparative Law
- Journal of Intellectual Property Law
We have developed a research guide to share resources about OA, our repository and other info aimed at both educating and activating.
You can also contact TJ Striepe, Associate Director for Research Services at the Law Library to learn more about including your own scholarship in our school’s own repository Digital Commons. At the end of the week watch a documentary with us The Internet’s Own Boy.
