New Book: Food Safety!

In Food We TrustThe new book In Food We Trust: The Politics of Purity in American Food Regulation is a comprehensive history of food safety policy in the United States. The book examines five case studies of significant food safety crises including the 2009 outbreak of salmonella in peanut butter at a Georgia processing plant. Concerned that U.S. food safety oversight has continued to be governed by laws that don’t take into account modern changes in production, processing, and distribution, the book puts food regulation into context and explains the limited power federal agencies have to safeguard the food supply.
