New DVD: Riot in Cell Block 11

Riot in Cell Block 11Just released for its 60th anniversary, the new Criterion DVD of Riot in Cell Block 11, a 1954 film by legendary director Don Siegel, is available in the Law Library DVD Collection. The film was inspired by a string of penitentiary uprisings, including an April 1952 insurrection in Jackson, Michigan, in which nine guards were taken hostage by rebellious inmates. Praised for its authenticity and action, it was filmed on location at Folsom State Prison, several people involved in the production were former convicts, and many of the extras were played by inmates and guards.
