Fab Four Copyright

59 previously unreleased Beatles songs were made commercially available today. Is there a big demand for these BBC and studio sessions outtakes from 1963? Probably not, but due to European Union copyright law only recordings released within 50 years of being made qualify for Codification of European copyright lawan additional 20 year extension. Today’s release will keep these recordings from entering the public domain for a while longer.

Read more about the development of current EU copyright law in the book Codification of European Copyright Law: Challenges and Perspectives edited by Tatiana-Eleni Synodinou. You can find the book in the Law Library Basement at KJE2655 .C63 2012.
