New Book: Freedom of Assembly

In the book Liberty’s Refuge: The Forgotten Freedom of Assembly, author John D. Inazu looks at the importance of the First Amendment’s “right of the people peaceably to assemble” and how this right has been undermined by a focus in the courts over the past 30 years on “expressive association.”  He demonstrates that the forgetting of assembly and the embrace of association lose sight of important dimensions of our constitutional tradition.  For more information, read Jeremy Kessler’s review of the book in The New Republic.
